NEWAVE

Which models go into calculating the short-term price?

● checked against the primary source on Sep 27, 2026Source: CCEE and ONS

Acronyms: CCEE, Electric Energy Trading Chamber; PLD, Settlement Price for Differences (spot price).

In one sentence

One of the three computer models cited by the CCEE in calculating the PLD, alongside DECOMP and DESSEM.

Real example

Number read from the published database

On Sep 30, 2026, the average of the 24 hours of the PLD in the Southeast/Center-West was R$ 135.25/MWhNature of the data: Calculated. According to the CCEE, each hour of this price comes from a calculation with the Newave, Decomp and Dessem models; the observatory does not publish NEWAVE outputs.

No Check this number record of its own in this example: the number comes from the panel's published database, which carries the source and the reference date.

Calculated: Deterministic transformation made by Scrutiniums, with a published formula.

Why it matters

The CCEE states that the PLD is calculated by computer models, among them NEWAVE. The role of each model in the chain was not checked in a technical document.

How it is measured

Computer model; not a quantity. Horizon and formulation were not checked in a technical document.

Not to be confused with

  • DECOMP

Both are cited by the CCEE in calculating the PLD. DECOMP has output published by the ONS and used here (the weekly CMO); the technical description of NEWAVE was not checked, and the observatory does not publish its output.

What cannot be concluded

  • The technical documentation of the model was not read.
