Global load (verified load)

How much energy does the system serve every half hour?

● checked against the primary source on Oct 1, 2026Source: ONS

Acronyms: ONS, National Electric System Operator; CCEE, Electric Energy Trading Chamber; SIN, National Interconnected System.

In one sentence

Load verified by the ONS every half hour by load area, with the published components: the portion supervised by the ONS, the portion measured by the CCEE, the portion served by distributed micro and mini generation and, when they occur, demand reduction and consistency adjustments.

Real example

Share of SIN global load served by MMGD (ONS estimate), last complete month

10.8%Portuguese onlyda carga globalNature of the data: Estimated

Aug 1, 2026 to Aug 31, 2026 · SIN

Source: ONS, Carga de Energia Verificada. Reference up to Aug 31, 2026. Captured on Sep 30, 2026.

How much of the SIN global load was served by distributed micro and mini generation in the last complete month, according to the ONS estimate.

See in the panel: Load: hourly profile

Estimated: Value obtained by a statistical procedure, with uncertainty.

Why it matters

It is the dataset in which the ONS publishes the portion served by MMGD separately from the rest of the load.

How it is measured

In MWavg integrated at the end of each half hour (UTC time), by load area.

Unit: MWavg, by half hour and load area

Not to be confused with

  • Global load net of MMGD

Global load includes the portion served by distributed micro and mini generation; load net of MMGD is global load without that portion. In the published data, net load plus the MMGD portion gives the global load in all half hours checked.

  • Hourly load curve

They are different quantities: global load, by half hour and load area, is above the hourly load curve in the same hours. That is why load net of MMGD is not obtained by subtracting MMGD from the curve.

What cannot be concluded

  • The MMGD portion is an ONS estimate, not a measurement; global load is therefore observed with an estimated component.
  • It is not the same quantity as the hourly load curve: in the published data, the global load of the SIN is above the curve in the same hours (MMGD and hourly profile panel, Audit mode).
